It was my first real fandom! I mean, okay, there was a brief Sailor Moon phase, but then I FELL IN LOVE with Gargoyles and wrote SO MUCH FANFIC. Which is still around somewhere, actually.
I feel the same way as you about Heart of Darkness, as I really want to punch the book in the face. I saw Apocalypse Now (Redux) once and while I didn't exactly love it, I saw why it's so respected and acclaimed. By the end of it I felt as if I'd sat through the entire war and was a bit loopy in the head.
My favorite Gargoyle was, unsurprisingly, Brooklyn.
In fact, I think Gargoyles may have implanted the compulsion to move to New York in my tiny brain. XD
Questions!
1. You can have any job in the world. What do you choose? (If a real world one doesn't exist, totally make something up!) 2. Let's travel to that magical desert island that has a boom box and ignore a few practicalities. Which five albums do you have with you? 3. Do you have a favorite poet and/or poem? 4. Describe your personal Platonic ideal of a movie. 5. What is your favorite article of clothing and does it have an interesting story attached?
Gargoyles was a rare, smart cartoon that actually showed a dark and magical side to NYC, and I loved that. Plus it had its roots in medieval history. And Macbeth! And...castles! Jeez, what's not to love.
I'll be thinking of answers on my way home on the subway! Oh and to be honest, I had to look up what a Platonic ideal is. Me not good with philosophy. I think I know what you mean by it as applied to a movie, but I might need it explained in layman's terms.
God, yes. It probably solidified at least half of my interests later in life, and was so completely awesome in general. *_*
Ha, sorry. I tend to use Platonic ideal as a shorthand because I'm lazy. I just mean, the absolute perfect movie custom-tailored to all your preferences, with all the elements you look for in the perfect relation to each other, and possibly also the perfect cast, from any time-period. Just -- what would a movie have to look like for you to say, "YES, yes, this is it."
Mine would look a lot like In Bruges. But I think your movie-watching is a little more serious than mine, so your Platonic movie is probably more interesting to hear about. >_>
...I never said I would come up with good questions.
1. Which books and/or authors, roughly five, had the greatest impact on you in your childhood? (And no, I'm not just asking because the mere thought of tiny!Peri sends me into conniptions of adorable. Not at all.) 2. A passage/poem/song lyric/something that is currently gnawing at your brain? 3. What could you eat for a long time without getting tired of it? (As distinct from favorite food, in most cases, I think.) 4. What is your favorite place in Seattle? (If you can't pick, just a favorite will do.) (Pictures are nice, too.) 5. Complete the sentence. The nonexistant fic that I want to read right now would have:
Gargoyles! Y hallo thar childhood! I miss the show so much. I know I embarrassed my self when I seen Goliath statue in the backlots/employee parking lot at Disney. Miss sailormoon to.
Gargoyles is better than everything ever. It's basically a condition of the universe.
1. Which fictional character(s) would you actually want to be friends with? 2. What is your favorite story to tell in mixed company? 3. What is your favorite kind of weather? 4. If you could suddenly know everything to know about one subject, what subject would you choose? 5. Is there a song that will always cheer you up?

You can't see me but I'm holding my fist in the air. :D
I loved that movie. I'm too cheap to go see it again but I'm determined to get a copy once it comes out.
I've yet to see Revolutionary Road, but that's high on the list.

Revolutionary Road is amazing. Not least because -- surprise! -- Leonardo DiCaprio can act.
