A Gaza Analogy

Canadians are trying to understand what's happening in Gaza, and many express the sentiment that Israel has the right to defend itself. Which is true. But when does self defense go too far? Here's a little analogy that would perhaps make it a bit more relevant for Canada. Let's go back to the FLQ crisis ( Read more... )

Good analogy.
You might add, out of every 1 FLQ killed by this approach, ??? amount of innocent Montreal men, women, and children are killed.

And since the main argument in favour of Israel's attack seems to be the Hamas missiles, it would not hurt to work those into the story, in response to the boarder blockades, food shortages, and water crisis.

Good analogy, except you are missing the part where they lob missiles out of Montreal to the surrounding area, and for there to be far more urban settlements within range of those missiles.

I am not trying to take the flipside, I am not a fan at all of how Israel is comporting themselves, however for the analogy to be fair, you do need to include that part.

Perhaps I wasn't explicitly clear enough. THat is what I meant by "operating *out of*".
The FLQ bombings were conducted all over greater Montreal, and possibly beyond, I'm not sure. The randomness of the FLQ bombings is, I believe, analagous to Hamas rockets.

Ah. That was what I was trying to point out too - Mike used better words. I think you're presuming that we're more familiar with the specific actions of the FLQ than we really are.

Excellent analogy. With permission, I'd like to use this in my Landeskunde Kanada course.
