I'm not going to chime in with all the "Yay, Obama!" sentiment, because there are a lot of people already doing that, and I support them, and Obama wholeheartedly. Barack doesn't need me as another cheerleader. He has plenty ( Read more... )

Well said! I also cringe every time the word "liberal" is used to vilify a politician. When did it become a dirty word? And why does no one ever say "Politician X is the most Conservative senator America has ever known!"?

I'm so happy today! Had to pinch myself when I woke up this morning.

Whether anything really "changes" remains to be seen, but for the first time, I feel like maybe, even just a LITTLE, it might.

I'm also happy that there is finally a role model for black kids that doesn't have gold teeth and a do-rag, smoking a blunt and carrying a "gat". Whatever you think of Obama, whether you think he's sincere or not... he's a step out of the ghetto that American youth culture has been wallowing in for years.

Whether he actually is a good president, we'll see -- I'm as skeptical as anybody, because he's got a lot to prove and a tall order to fill.

What inspires ME, though, like I said, is that for once, I don't feel like my values are "the enemy". That alone is refreshing.

the rest of it really remains to be seen, for me at least. im so fucking jaded.

You're forgetting Bill Cosby, a great role model for ALL Americans. Although I guess I might have an unfair bias towards old cranks who spend their time yelling at kids and telling them to "Pull up your pants". Too bad he got smeared during his anti-hip-hop-culture tour and had to give it up.
