Twitter

During recent discussions of miscommunication in Buffyverse fandom several people spoke about Twitter as a great means to spread fandom news. I decided to make an experiment. I created a Twitter account Buffyfanfiction and from now on I'm going to post links to Buffy fanfics there.

Good luck with that.

I'm still resisting Twitter, Facebook, etc. but I also realize that people are using them.

Thanks!

I remember how I resisted the idea of creating an LJ six years ago. "What for? I can talk about my favorite show on several boards!" :)

Right now, it seems to me that Twitter is overloaded with information - but maybe it's great that people have a lot of choices.

I'm so happy you're giving it a shot. I plan on linking to more fics as well through my Twitter account.

*hugs*

I rarely send text messages, so I'm a bit frustrated with the necessity to cram everything I want to say into 140 characters - but maybe Twitter will teach me to be succinct!

Think of it as a very tiny drabble! Also, you can shorten links by going here: http://bit.ly/ and it'll generate a shorter link for you.

I have no idea how to use twitter, but I added your Buffyfanfiction on RSS feed. I also have on RSS twitter feed marsters, caprica marsters and spuffy.

Interesting. I didn't know that there is a Twitter user named Spuffy. But it looks like the account is dead. Like somebody has reserved the name - just in case.

Not the name/account!

http://search.twitter.com/search?q=spuffy and then I had the option of RSS feed for this query (did the same for the other ones), so I have in real time every mention in all twitters for the name searched.

Oh. I didn't even know about such option. It's a very helpful tip - apparently I should always mention pairings and characters' names in the rec posts if I want the posts to be found by target group.

Thank you!

I'm wondering how you expect the word to get out. It seems like a fair idea for an experiment, but I would think that you would mostly just end up with followers who you already reach here on LJ or at a board, since they would be the ones who hear about it. One thing that did occur to me is that you could use the account to respond to or follow people/groups that might have similar interests. Meaning if someone who was interested in fandom saw a tweet to say Whedonesque by a user called Buffyfanfiction-they might check that user out.
I'll add you to my list.

There's a search feature for Twitter. Anyone who searches for "buffy" and "fanfic" would stumble across her recommendations. And there are a lot of new fans who use Twitter that wouldn't come to LJ of their own accord. So the links would draw them in.

I wrote a Dollhouse cancellation fic that got crazy hits because it was tweeted and retweeted several times on Twitter.

Thanks for the idea!

Angearia explained it better than me. :)

Initially, I wanted to make a pure experiment and even not write on LJ about it. But them I decided to explain my intentions - mostly because I realized, in hindsight, that the name of the account sounds very ambitious.
