so for something a ittle different this week i wanted to argue the case that Blake has been a significant influence on a number of artists that i admire. one of these is a band i have mentioned in my LJ over the years, Tool. the most obvious area upon which to look for evidence of the parallels betweeb Blake and the band would be within the lyrics ( Read more... )

we discussed in class this week how Blake tuned his craft into a metaphor for what he was pursuing in his life. Blake used the Infernal method, which consisted of using corrosives to shape his work- these melted the surface of his plates away, leaving his images a nd words raised. in all Blake saw this action as a profound metaphor for what he was ( Read more... )

 The symbolism of fire in the tyger really adds to the notions of duality that feature within Blakes contrary states of the human soul. Fire not only has the producing, life giving power, the power to ignite and burn to herald renewal but it also has the potential to destroy and devastate. This week we looked at Blake's view of the relationship between God, the senses and perception. In Blake's A Memorable Fancy , he asks "Does a firm perswasion that a thing is so, make it so?"
