au_muses application, one-year-ahead-hermione!

OOC: Whee. Okay. I'm mostly posting this here, now, because my laptop is being all kinds of special lately. I don't want to lose this as I spent entirely too much time on it! But, for any interested varieties? This is an AU version of Hermione set one year ahead of canon & the twins are one year behind, so she would've been in the same year as Fred & George. This idea was mostly inspired from my constant state of awe created by the wonderful forgeisasaint! So, this would be my saving place for my application for au_muses - and so certain parties who also need to apply can read and brainstorm accordingly. If you want to brainstorm and such? Feel free to use the comments here for that!! That's not needed now. Huzzah.

Graduation:

It’s been a strange seven years. Reflection is strongly encouraged prior to graduation and considering it’s literally hours away, it seems fitting to take a few moments to wax nostalgic. I met Fred and George Weasley in one of the compartments on the Hogwarts Express. I told them all things I’d read about in Hogwarts: A History - which, to this day, no one else has read despite my constant referencing. They told me of all the secrets they knew courtesy of siblings they had ahead of them in school. Oh, they were certainly a bit playful for my taste, but we came to a quick agreement that led to an unbreakable friendship - they kept me from becoming a dreadful prat like their brother Percy, and I kept them from being expelled. Sometimes keeping them from being expelled proved to be difficult, as anytime someone mocked me in class, they were quick to strike back with a prank.

Oh, believe me, I’ve had my fair share of trouble - most of which I can blame on the twins and the Mauraders Map we found which lead to all sorts of fun sneaking about the castle, discovering hidden rooms. But, I do absolutely believe I have the best mastery of practical healing magic after all of their experimental pranks! The dynamic changed a bit in our fifth year. This was mostly because the Tri-Wizard Tournament had everyone a little mental. Viktor Krum developed something of a crush on me which Fred thought was amusing and brilliant but George didn’t take well at all. In fact, George was rather unreasonably angry and took to moping about until he apparently heard rumor that Viktor was going to ask me to the Yule Ball. They had a rather fantastic fight - and, under normal circumstances, I don’t encourage violence, but it was oddly flattering in this case. I went with George to the Yule Ball - black-eye and all. We’ve been together since, which often leaves Fred baffled.

The other two-thirds of my trio left at the end of our sixth year - mostly because that nasty woman, Delores Umbridge, banned the Weasley products from the school. It was a strange year prior to that as we spent most of our time in the secret meetings of Dumbledore’s Army, learning fantastic defensive magic from Harry Potter. There were a lot of difficult things that happened, but it ended on a high note with the two of them creating a mess of monstrous proportions - and, for the record, the portable swamp was my idea, though they never gave me proper credit for it - as they flew out of the school. It was an amazing exit, in the middle of O.W.L. examinations, with Peeves actually taking orders from them! I did get a detention from it, though it wasn’t for my part in helping them concoct this scheme, but instead from the point in which George swooped down on his broomstick and kissed me so fiercely in front of the entire school that I thought I would faint! …I didn’t mind serving detention that time.

This year has been strange. I was named Head Girl which had moments of being absolutely brilliant. I’ve also sat my N.E.W.T. examinations with little difficulty, though I won’t feel better until I’ve seen my precise marks. My schooling, however, has ended on a sad note - Dumbledore’s funeral. Draco Malfoy managed to smuggle death eaters into the school, and I can’t help but feel that I let Hogwarts down in my responsibilities as Head Girl. The world feels small and frightening at the brink of graduation; I’m not stepping out into the world to find my place, but rather, I’m being thrown into a war. I will gladly stand my ground and fight against You-Know-Who, but at the same time, it isn’t fair at all that this is the note upon which my years at Hogwarts draws to a close. However, it’s been an amazing seven years, and I’m cautiously optimistic that there will be many more years of students attending and graduating from such a wonderful institution.

Introduction: (taken from Hermione's first year, on the Hogwarts Express, with a bit of the Weasley twins borrowed)

She arrived early, naturally. She was seated in one of the compartments in the middle of the Hogwarts Express with a hardback book sitting neatly in her lap. Her uniform was still perfectly pressed without the slightly wrinkle in sight. Her hair, however, was a rather unruly mane which should’ve been a clear indication to someone that she’d surely end up in Gryffindor. Her nervous, quiet reading was interrupted by two identical boys who leapt into her cart and sat across from her in a rather sudden heap. She blinked at them as they busily introduced themselves as Fred and George with no sort of specification as to which-was-which. They were rather amused with each other, already laughing loudly and going through an assortment of things they’d apparently procured from another compartment.

“The two of you ought to tuck in your shirts and stop joking around by the time we arrive at the school,” she said rather bossily, “You’ve not got any sort of house colors, so you must be a first year like me. Sorting is taken very seriously. We’re to be taken to the castle in boats and escorted into the Great Hall by the prefects to await our sorting by the ancient sorting hat. The hat has actually been around since the school was founded, and it takes its duties very seriously!”

The twins stared at her, then gave each other a mischievous glance. “We know loads of the school. Our brothers Charlie, Bill, and Percy are ahead of us. And we’ve got Ron and our baby sister Ginny to think about at home,” one of them said, followed by the other, “So far, every Weasley has been sorted into Gryffindor. We plan to uphold the family tradition, which we happen to take very seriously. But, we don’t want you to start things on the wrong foot, and you’re already reminding us of our brother Percy. He’s a right git with his wand stuck up his-”

“Fred!” Oh, now she could tell them apart, sort of. “What my brother is trying to say is… there’s another matter we take very seriously. We don’t want another Percy, and you’ve got Percy written all over. But, since you’re clearly a very bright girl, we’d much rather be friends than not. We’ve got loads of practical knowledge, while you already have quite a bit of booksmarts. We promise to keep you from becoming Percy, so long as you keep us…”

“From being expelled?” she asked, staring at the two of them quizzically. They nodded enthusiastically at her, which elicited something of a nervous laugh. “I’ve nearly memorized Hogwarts: A History. I’ve never seen a bit of real magic before - not until the owl flew through the window. I suppose I’m a bit nervous, trying to catch up so I fit in.”

“We’ll make certain to help you blend in, assuming of course that you don’t land yourself in Ravenclaw with all those booksmarts. But, given that you’re already friends with the two of us? That puts you ahead of Ravenclaw, so surely you’ll end up in Gryffindor with us,” Fred, she thought, said. “You’ll make it to Gryffindor, won’t you?”

“Well, the sorting hat makes its selection based on a number of criteria,” she started, then paused to glance up at them who were starting to shake their heads. She laughed a little, “I’ll try.”

“That’s our girl. Clever indeed! We’re going to make beautiful mischief together, Miss?” George said, then they realized they had yet to be properly introduced.

“Hermione Granger,” she said, then added, “but, we mustn’t break any rules!”
