After a glorious month of working 6-hour days (I spread a week of vacation over a month), I'm back to the 8-hour grind today.

8 hours is a @#$% long time to spend in one place.

My printer is fixed! Apparently, there's one more part that slides open than I was aware of. Lady on the phone was really friendly, had me open all the parts, and there was the jammed paper, very easy to remove. Huzzah!

Man, using form from the Classical era sure does pad the length of music!

The first movement of my contrabassoon concerto tops out at about 8 minutes, and it feels like there isn't nearly that much material in it. Guess that's what happens when I use the textbook first-movement-concerto form.

This is the first Olympics I have a TiVo for, and since I just upgraded my hard drive to hold 100 hours of HD, I got a season pass for, essentially, all of it. It records HD on two tuners, and when there's no HD being broadcasted, it'll record standard def on the "lesser" channels ( Read more... )

Linux needs a paradigm for uninstallers. Yes, package managers will do it, but if your program isn't RPMed, you're SOL if you want to get all of a program's nasty cruft off your system. *sigh*

My TiVo is on the fritz. 95% chance it's a failing hard drive, as all the signs point to that. Half my recordings are nerfed, and if I hook the unit up to a valid signal, it freezes and reboots ( Read more... )

There are days when I consider abandoning what I'm doing in music, to settle into the work-type stuff I'm doing now and being happy with that.

Then there are days like today, when I am reminded why I need to get TF out of here.

The average non-musically-educated American listener finds an upward stepwise modulation in pop music to be genuine magic.

"America's Got Talent" this past week... Mediocre singer. Song went up a step. His singing didn't magically get better. It still sucked. But the audience loved it.
