First Day of Summer

Jun 29, 2024 22:40

Iana loves her kids and she knows Bolly suggestion comes from a good place, but one day's notice to book out enough space at Adrienne's for all the kids, family, and friends is really pushing it. Fortunately, there is space, and willingness, and while nothing fancy has been done specifically, Adrienne's café is always lovely on its own. She's given ( Read more... )

Fred had managed to at least get through a lot of the prep work before being chased out of the kitchens. He was probably going to have to fight someone later over who was paying for what, but that was later. For now, he had a lovely glass of wine and a sushi starter platter and pleasant company to enjoy.

Auggie sat next to Fred, he put his book away and, "Is that good?" He's never tried sushi. He's not adventurous with food and if he doesn't think it looks or smell good he usually won't try it

"They're very good. Would you like to try?" Fred considers the platter, before pointing. "I think you might like the crab roll. It's a little spicy, but not too much."

Auggie thinks about it, he takes the crab roll and remakes a bite. It takes a minute of chewing to make up his mind. The texture bothers him at first but he adjusts. By the time he swallows he decides he likes it, "that was good "

Bolly is very pleased by his great idea with no problems. He hopes Aunt Summer is here, so he can introduce Sylvie, but that's a later problem. For now he has a menu to peruse and so many tasty things to choose from.

"Bolly! I loved your idea," kiss, kiss! He might have a menu and he should still use it, but Mari has brought him a sausage roll anyway.

"Bonjour!" European hello kisses, whee! And they come with food. "Merci beaucoup! J'adore les, um." Bolly frowns. "Saucisses en... Pâtisserie?" He gives up. "I don't think that's correct!"

"Oh no, you're doing very well. I think you can just say sausage roll," she thinks about it, "Saucisson brioché isn't the same at all."

Jax has been to Weasley family functions before and he almost always feels awkward. He really wants to make more of an effort with his family (and only like 50 percent of that is because of Sylvie).

Anyway he's sitting there making a real effort not to look grumpy or bored and to appear approachable. He's drinking water and nibbling on some chips.

Mari has cookies she has to put down before she can (try to) hug Jax and kiss his cheeks. She will not be less French about it, she refuses.
"How do you feel? You finished!"

Jax smiles and hugs her back, "It feels...weird, honestly. I mean, good. Kind of sad. Weird, is about the best I can do." He pulls away, "How're you? You look like you're about to have a baby."

"I am! It's also very weird," she pats his shoulder, she's been there in the liminal space after school ends--and then she moved countries, and if she handled all of that more or less fine then she's sure he'll do great, "I think I would like to be done and just have a baby now."

The thing about being almost eight months pregnant is that things are edging from boring to boring and miserable. Helping with this party has been one of the highlights of her week, right behind seeing Dae again, and she's going to keep setting out more desserts and greeting people because doing something is great. Should she go sit down? Probably! Good luck to anyone who tries to tell her that!

"Can I help you with anything?" Sylvie puts a pleasant smile on her face but her voice is small. She's really nervous that Mari is going to hate her.

Mari rounds on her with a genuine smile. She's not sure exactly what happened, but Dae was very clear he broke up with Sylvie for his own reasons and she likes Sylvie independently anyway. Clearly things are a little awkward though, so she'll offer a hug instead of just going for it, "Sylvie! I'm so happy to see you!"

Sylvie beams and hugs her, "I'm glad to see you too. How're you feeling?" Okay, she feels a lot better now.

Sylvie always been good with parties and meeting people. She has a lot of friends here thankfully. She started off, admittedly, little awkward but she's finding her stride. Currently, she's perusing the menu trying to decide what to eat, it all sounds good. "I think... salad." She mutters.

Overhearing, Fred leans over to say, "The roasted chickpea kale salad with tzatziki is good if you're not a meat eater. Or the bean fiesta."

She looks up and smiles at him, "thank you for the suggestion. The first one sounds good." She stands up and offers her hand, "Hello, I'm Sylvie Scott."

Oh, very formal! Fred can do handshakes. "Fred Weasley-Macmillan. I'm the twins grandfather. I'm probably related to other people here, but, between you and me, I have long since forgotten how."
