I've been fairly interested in hypnosis for a while now. I honestly used to believe it was a crock of shit, but that was a result of seeing goofy stage performances and the like. "Bark like a dog ( Read more... )

I would love to undergo hypnosis with a trust person, to access various "memories" I have. However, I wouldn't even begin to know how to locate said person, as I am SO shy of quacks and ripoff artists. I know vestiges of my real memories, and I don't want any implants. Additionally, I want someone who, when they do evoke/bring forth those memories, will be cool enough to handle "hearing" what I see.

I also realize that hypnosis works for some, but not others. I think I would be susceptible to its "draw."

Have to be VERY careful about trying to do memory recovery- most psychotherapists recommends not trying- firstly because there's no distinction between 'false memories' and 'real memories' and second because it's very very easy for them to inadvertently suggest false memories.
Some psychiatrists may dabble occasionally with using hypnotherapy, so you might could find one if you go that route, though I'd imagine they'd not want to jump into it.

I know a girl who did hypnotherapy to quit smoking as well. It worked well for her. I do think a lot of it might be the placebo effect, but really, does it matter if the "effect" is the same? Yea for hypnotherapy!

Yeah, I dunno how it works, but you can't argue with results really, and it seems to get them.
