BBQ?

Ok, my Dallas-dwelling friends, I need some fast advice. If you need to impress someone not from Texas with our Texas food, where in the Dallas area would you suggest? By "Dallas area" I'm meaning north to Plano, west to mid-cities, east to Mesquite. South to... uh... I-20, I suppose ( Read more... )

Sadly I have no experience in Dallas, due to the spouse's familial love for one or two specific restaurants. *sigh*

However trip advisor has never led me astray: http://www.tripadvisor.com/RestaurantSearch?geo=55711&pid=&q=Dallas%2C+Texas%2C+USA&cat=&src=

This is what came up with "local food" for Dallas on yelp: hhttp://www.yelp.com/search?find_desc=local+food&find_loc=dallas%2C+tx&ns=1

The easier chuy's to get to is on 75 in Plano. They're good, but I prefer Tupinamba's for Tex-mex followed by Blue Goose.

All you can eat fabulous tex-mex brunch can be found at Mattitos. It's around $15 and includes bottomless mimosas. Expect it to be packed (I think we had a 45 minute plus wait for a about 10 of us) but more than worth it. I wasn't able to try everything when we went.

Love and War in Texas is where we used to (and may still) take conDFW GoH's. It's good food and oozes Texas. The Plano location is the only one I've been to.

I've heard good things about Bakers Ribs.

If you want to show them an old fashioned drive in with good food, keller's burgers is great. It's on NW Highway. Chances are you might get there when a classic car group is there.

Good traditional american southern can be found at Babe's. They serve everything family style with endless veggies. Everyone orders a meat which is also brought out family style. Best way to do it is everyone orders a different meat and you share, just like sunday dinner ( ... )

I have dramatically fallen out of love with Love & War. The last few times I was there, the food was incredibly salty and the service lackadaisical. Just not worth the price.

It's not BBQ, but it's "fun" southern food. I've only been to the one in Carrollton. The leftovers handed to you in a plastic baggie and the family style meals are fun, the food is decent.

I don't care for Love and War in Texas, and the only BBQ place I like a lot here is Rick's BBQ on Jupiter road in Garland, which is incidentally right across the street from my Raytheon plant.

If you want something unique to dallas:
Cafe Brazil (multiple locations)
Cindy's New York Deli (multiple)
Tukta Thai in Garland (sp?)
Fadi's mediterranean on Preston near Beltline
Mint Asian-fusion on 75 and Forrest

Tukta Thai and Asian mint are ok for Thai, but I prefer banana leaf or on Sundays wat Dallas. That's too bad about love and war, it's probably been 5+ years since I've gone. There's a butcher shop in Plano for good burgers, and twisted root burger is supposed to be good. Haven't had a chance to try it.

I haven't had Freebirds in quite a while. Works for me, and definitely something the Bermudians should partake of.
