Apologies At Absence.

Sep 12, 2009 01:18

I feel I need to make a post to apologise to you all for not being very active in the simming community lately, the list of stories I have yet to read and comment on is growing longer and longer, and I just can't find the time to catch up ( Read more... )

Nice to see a flag Shadey :) I was wondering where you were.

I remember you saying you were going to do this HNH computer course, so good for you! It sounds jolly hard though! Hope it all goes well and you can master that JavaScript and Python programming. Wish I knew something about them, but I'm afraid I am clueless.

I have a bad head cold, so I am having a very quiet weekend. Luckily it didn't come on till after my birthday. But I might get some more done on my WYDC. :)

Hope you get some quiet study time!

Yes, I thought a flag was in order seeing I am just not going to be able to be as active in this community as previously, for a while anyway. I had hoped I could keep it quiet and carry on as normal but that is just not possible.
It is jolly hard, my brain is threatening to go into meltdown at any given time with having to take so much new stuff in, I'll soon need to buy an extra brain or get the existing one upgraded. :P

Poor you having a cold. Get some vitamin C, fluids, rest and simming, and you should soon be as right as rain. And belated Happy Birthday to you. :)

Today is a lovely day, it's 16 Celsius out so there is a good chance hubby will take the kids to the beach or something. So yes, I should be able to get stuck into the studying today.

Thank you so much for popping by Jo, I feel so bad for letting all you wonderful writers down.

I often wish I could add some more RAM to my poor brain. ^_^

Thank you, yes I am. Although I haven't taken any extra vit C, I must do that.

16 C! Brr, that's what I call cold! >lol<

Never mind about the comments Shadey. Hopefully you will get to read them even if you can't comment. Sorry my updates are rather long.

Heh, it's gone up to 17 now. My youngest is in shorts and t-shirt. :D

Brain RAM; there is an invention that'll sell well.

Hello and i am glad to see your post. I completely understand not having time since you are taking classes and while I do not personally know of good online resources for JavaScript and Python programming, my brother-in-law is a programmer (he works on online video games). Kevin is supposed to be talking to him Monday about learning programming (not sure what specific program he is looking to learn) so I will ask him to ask his brother if he has any suggestions. I think he mostly suggests books, but he may know of a good website for one of them.

As to what I will be doing this weekend. I have an idea for a Don Lothario post that I am currently working on the script for and making a list of what photos I will need so that when I play his house for the first day it will be my usual economical playing to get the most done with the least amount of computer screen time. Since Kevin wants to be a screen writer I have asked him to help me with the dialogue to make it as "Don" as possible. At least, what I have in my head as being "Don

Kevin mentioned that there are Stanford University courses on iTunes and if you watch Programming Methodology with Mahran Sahami as the lecturer, that should be the one that covers Java. They tell you where to find the course notes during the video and Kevin was able to find the textbook online for free when he looked up the title.

Hope that helps; he hadn't heard of Python but I have asked him to ask his brother about that.

I have been reading your last posts but just not been awake enough give you a comment, which is a shame because it's really interesting what you are doing.

Thanks for giving me a pointer for the programming, though I am not sure how different Java is to Python. As far as I know Python is a more simple and easier to use language, I'm sure Kevin's brother knows of it. My tutor reckons Python is the way forward.

Can I make a guess that Don's story will involve an alien abduction at some point? :D
"As Don as possible"; I like the way that sounds, that could almost be the title of his story.

Thanks for dropping by, and I will be most interested in hearing what your brother-in-law has to say about Python.

Sorry I forgot to replay to this sooner, Kevin said that while his brother new what Python was, he had not studied it yet. Some of the people he works with have and they are using it to code at least one game, but he will not be learning it until after his current project (which may be a while).

Wow, Shadey, I am impressed. I struggled just to be a full time student, but balancing hubby, kids and house too - I take my hat off to you! HNC too, that will come in handy. I've just helped my Dad to write his CV, I definately need a cup of tea now haha.

Apologies that I can't help you with any of the programming stuff, but any maths help you need I can do, silly statistics have kept me up for many nights the last three years. :)

Hope you're okay and it's lovely to hear from you. Good luck with the course and I shall be posting to you when I get back from Portugal where I am meant to be flying to in four hours. Hmm, with my parents organisation, chance would be a fine thing. :)

Luckily my kids are of the age where they can make themselves a sandwich if they get hungry, so if I can just get them to keep the noise down and not disturb me then I can study when they are home.

The way I look at it is that a Highers is always going to look good on your CV, no matter if it relates to the job you are applying for or not, and with taking this Highers in computing I will be learning something I have a strong wish to learn. I just so hope I can keep up with it. It is scary how little I still know about computers and I still catch myself at thinking "What the heck am I doing here? I am waaaay out of my depth." But, so far so good, one step at a time, and all that.

Ooo you are off to Portugal? On holiday? Have a lovely time, and thanks for stopping by Amylu, and I shall keep you in mind if I need some maths support. :)

Congratulations on school! I think it's a great thing to study something you're interested in. And I completely understand you not having time to be around much, but I'm glad we'll still see you from time to time. :)

Thanks Denise, I am still as excited about attending college as I am worried about it.
I will definitely make sure I check in here now and then.
Thank you for your kind words. :)

Yay Shadey! Programming is fun; or at least it was at the basic level I did it in Highschool, though I'm certain most programmers would look at HTML and Visual Basic programming as elementary compartively to Java or C++. Do they even use C++ anymore?

So, yay! for nice weather and kicking... I mean, getting the kiddies to get fresh air! It's important in their developmental process, I'm told. Or at least in maintaining sanity.

Thanks for the update; congrats on going for the HNC, I'm sure you'll be able to pull through the year. It does get harder as it goes along, but you develop a routine and it seems easier to deal with. Beginning is always the hardest, and the longest part of a project.

And it's only a year, right?

Bisous!

I think C++ is still pretty current but my tutor feels Python is the future for programming, and he prides himself with having a knack for having a feeling about these things. He is just sad he hasn't managed to turn this knack into money yet. :P ( ... )
