maybe thinking you're supposed to "have a life" is a stupid way of buying into an unattainable 1950's narrative of what life's *supposed* to be.

i agree the fifty's would be fun. i love the glamour and the all the pretty things that are associated with that era. nevertheless that's just the surface. there is so much more to that decade then pretty dresses and fancy tail fins of cars and shiny new appliances --that may be what is so truly fascinating about the period. after the war everything seemed so fresh but there were so many problems with this country and so many more having to do with woman's rights and the roles that were forced upon us by society. the fifty's was right on the cusp of the revolution of the woman's voice in society and now we just tend to glamorize the 1950's without thinking about how much things truly have changed. although the 50's were a great period in american history, it wasn’t perfect (but then again the times we are currently in aren’t so wonderful either). all the same, 50's teen vernacular (i.e. “nifty") is quite swell.
