I really don't know what to say to this. I know that I'd usually just make it up for myself as I went along, but I know this ones gonna haunt me for a while. Awesome writing and amazing concept.
Wow. I was really excited to read this when I read the summary. It's really good.
And though it's always frustrating for the reader to end on an ambiguous note it's also a good way to end it. Things can go either way, and the readers can make up their mind on what happens.
I was a little confused about this line at the end: "He wipes the counters off and makes sure that nobody left anything running." It makes sense that someone would do that--make sure things were perfect/off beforehand.
But where is Dean? He's at least 22, and I'm assuming that the rape happened when they were in college because you mention Dean going back to Lawrence...unless Dean was still living there?
As for the question, I imagined that with Dean going to KU, which is in Lawrence, it would be easier and more desirable for him to live with his mom while he attended the college.
This was one of the things that I had so firmly decided that I just assumed I had put into the fic somewhere, but once I read it over again, I realized that I hadn't (if that makes any sense at all).
This was a great story, so very different than what I expected but very well thought out and a fascinating puzzle. It was sad that it didn't matter which world Dean was in, monsters were there, no life was perfect. It felt like he was kind of driven, in the end, to chose Sam, not that I think that was a bad thing.
And yeah, oh my gosh, after I reread it after posting my brother had The Matrix on in the living room and I sorta just sat there while I slowly realized that "pills=world-hopping" is old hat in pop culture.

Anyway, overall a great story!

I'm glad that people seem to be liking the ending, despite the fact that it's ambiguous.

The whole thing was very intriguing, and what a new spin on Dean's stress.
The end is just so poignant. I love, of course, that he chose Sam. I hope he found him.
