Is there anyway of saying "Hello my name's Alison, I'm calling up on behalf of the AA" to make it sound like I'm not selling something? I'm not, but as i can't say i'm calling from the AA the automatic reaction is that i'm selling something and even if i managae to explain I'm not people are still wary and won't give out their contact details, and ( Read more... )

And on the bright side, they are making sure you are busy so that you don't end up being a redundancy.... :P

I don't give details to unsolicited callers. There's no evidence they are who they say they are, unless you see the caller ID, and even they can be faked.

There are whole companies around the world that make a massive amount of money by calling people, saying they're from some company the person has done business with (frequently the same company they've bought/stolen the customer's name and phone number from), and getting personal and financial details.

I was surveyed recently by TNS MRBI (at least that's who they said the were, andthe CLID matched), an irish surveying company, about my mobile phone usage. I declined to answer just over half the questions, because they dealt with my personal details, rather than phone usage details.

Not that this helps at all ;)
