Phelps issues apology....

Feb 01, 2009 12:29

I'm going to post the AP report here, but I will still not permit the News of the World article due to the amount of hearsay included in the body of thge report. Seeeing how Phelps has just issued a statement adknowledging he was smoking marijuana @ USC on Nov 6th, this consists of legitimate news and I'd be doing a disservice to the community in ( Read more... )

IA. I've had a bad taste in my mouth over the past couple of months in regards to the company he's been keeping.

I think a lot of people feel the same way you do, including myself. This isn't going to change my fanlove for him, but honestly, I could just kill him for acting so stupidly. Tough fanlove, I guess.

I am saddened by one aspect - what he did harmed nobody directly but himself (I'm not going to get into a huge debate about drug production and its costs throughout society, but IMO in general if any currently illegal drug could stand a review of its legal status, it's cannabis - and this from someone who has never tried it herself), but somebody with nothing else to bring himself/herself attention saw an opportunity to turn MP into money and did it.

Turning people into money for yourself is sick. This wasn't a public service - whoever it was didn't (as far as we know) call the police to report illegal drug use. They sold him for money and attention, and to fulfill some dark bit of human nature that makes us want to put people on pedestals and then overturn them with a resounding crash.

All I wonder is will he be able to swim in Indy and then Rome.

According to the latest AP report I just posted, he's *still* hoping to swim in Austin, even though they couldn't get any comment from Bowman about what happened.

Scary thought...he swims at Austin...will it be the first time Phelps get booed?

I want to kick him in the pants for this. Out of love and concern. Just like I wanted to when he got his DUI.

If he learns from this and just gets back into his training and does better things and doesn't do it again, I'll be okay with this. If he does this (or similar) again, I'll have to max out my credit card to send The Brute Squad to his house so we can straighten him out personally. (Kidding. Kinda. Trying to add levity...)

Having had people in my life that did/still do smoke pot, I can't condemn him. Not a good choice (especially for him, what with being an athlete and needing lung capacity), but if I shunned him for it, I'd also have to disown my late sister (who took it for pain relief due to her condition) and leave my fiance (who quit smoking just before he met me).

Yeah, disappointed in his behavior and in a way him, but I'm a firm believer in reacting/owning up/recovering after bad things being more a character trait. His owning up to it speaks volumes.

He needs to get back into the pool. NOW.

I wanted to choke him. Then hug him. Then choke him again.

I'm glad that he finally made a statement, but you know that this isn't going to be the end of it. I don't know, I feel like I need to *see* him talk about this. I forsee a talk with Lauer or Costas in the coming week.

You understand how I feel. I have a friend that's younger than me that I consider an adopted little brother. He got a couple of DUIs, the second one while he was still on parole for the first one. (One was a technical DUI, can't remember which or the details right now...) I didn't stop talking to him, much less stop caring about him, but I did physically and verbally kick him in the rear end. He's married with a daughter now, and has kept his nose clean since.

I hope the same for Mike. That somebody close to him says "I love you, but NOT COOL." And this time, it sinks in. (Dara, wouldya?)

BTW, radrluv69, you're doing a great job as Mod Mom. ♥

I hope so. I know people needed to talk about this, because they give a shit. I know *I* give a shit. I love him, I really do. But I could beat his skinny ass for being so stupid.

It's called tough love. Unconditional, but tough love.

i think that the period after the olympics are bad for mike , i also think that some people in his entourage have a bad influance on him, it is ok to party but you have to know that with the new tecnologie , everyone can catch you on camera and put in in the news, personally i still respect him , i just hope that people will still support mike. in france , laure manaudou had to deal with nude photos of her leaked by a ex boyfriend , she is still popular despite a bad olympic so i hope mike will get the same support.

Racy photos aren't illegal though. I just don't think that fact can be overlooked.

That said...if MFP had nude photos around I'm pretty sure his fan base would actually grow by a few hundred thousand
