My brother is gay, and thank god, our family accepts that and his lover. My mother is in all other ways conservative, but she can change if it's warranted.

In high shcool in the 70s (heh) I was anti-gay because I was following the trend. After high school, not sure when it happened, but I realized that most of my friends were actually gay. Over time and increased exposure to many different alternative lifestyles, I grew accustomed to it all and now there is very little anyone can do to shock me into "not knowing" them or otherwise rejecting them based on personal means of expression on any level at all. I might not like them, but it won't be because of that

I have really been lucky. I should be happy, but I guess I want more. I have never lost a friend when I came out to them. I have never been beaten up, spit on, and as far as I can remember, I have only been called a faggot once. I am living a charmeed life compared to others. I suppose I think I might be seen as a traitor for having these friends. I guess that is just pride talking. I suppose to live the way I think we all should, I must look past their ignorance, fear, and predjudice and hope that someday soon, they will see it.
