Yes, it's another food post. What have I been putting in my mouth? Many fun and tasty things:

GINGER BEERIt's funny, but this might be one of the things that I'll miss most once I'm back in the States. Oh, it's not that you can't find Ginger Beer at all in the US, but it's not ubiquitous. You've gotta search for it. And if you find it (usually ( Read more... )

Dude, I hope you're still working out, cause there will be twice as much of you by the time you get back if you keep eating like this. Heh-heh. Don't they have salads in the UK?

And thank you for enlightening on the Scotch egg mystery. I, too, have been in wonder since The Office.

I Totally agree on the Ginger beer situation here, as well as on the incredible tastiness of scotch eggs. I've only seen them at the occasional reenactment, and always fresh from the fryer, but I get them whenever I can.

I need to try a pork pie. :)

When I first read "sausage in batter" I thought of the thing I've gotten at The Great Impasta. But the description is rather different, and I looked up the Impasta dish and see that it is different:

< SAUSAGE IN CRUST
< Special homemade fresh sausage meat baked in a pure butter pastry crust.

Damn, now I'm hungry for food I can't get. :)

That sounds like what's usually referred to over here as a sausage roll, and is almost always sold wherever pasties can be found.

Scotch eggs are awesome. I learned about them from the Achewood cookbook and just had to make them at home. I dunno if it's better or worse, but we baked ours rather than frying them. Heck, it's still an egg wrapped in sausage wrapped in batter. VERY VERY tasty, but ya can't even consider eating more than one.

There're a number of brewpubs within driving distance of Champaign, including at least one in the Chicago area that serve Scotch Eggs, not sure about porkpies, though.
