Gotta find my purpose... gotta find me.

I can't find the proper words to express this, but I need to get this off my chest, so please pardon the potentially disjointed and nebulous nature of this post ( Read more... )

:( I am sorry you aren't challenged here. Mayhaps you are taking the wrong classes? The intros tend to be annoying and fairly shallow, especially if you've taken the AP equivilant. But I love my English 194 class. Even CS 11 is interesting (it's technically not the intro course for cosi).

I definitely feel you on the lack of intellectualism, occasionally. There are definitely people here who don't care about learning so much, just getting a degree. But I've also found my share of those who appreciate learning for the sake of itself.

What is less here, than probably at U of C, is people who love learning EVERYTHING. Lots of the humanities people just stick with humanities and some of the science people won't touch the humanities with a 10-foot pole, to be cliche.

Anyways, I understand if you want to leave, and you should do what's best for you. But if you do decide to stay (and even if you don't), I'm always up for an intelligent conversation.

University Of Chicago does, from what little I know of you (you intrigue), seem to be "your kind of place." For a while I thought I might have to transfer from Brandeis to a state school because of financial stuff, but I made the ultimate decision to just take out a ton of loans or whatever because having the perfect college experience is worth more than student debt. And plus, Chicago itself is such a hot city.

Don't get the impression I'm craving for you to leave since I'm saying you should go for it, but if you'd thinnk it would be more fufilling, it probably would be? I don't know, I'm pretty bad at advice.

I'm rather partial to U Chicago myself-- judging by the materials I've gotten from both schools, I get the same impression that Chicago's much more oriented towards learning for its own sake. (I'm probably applying there early next fall.)

U Chicago does seem right for you, babe, and if it means taking out more loans then maybe you just have to do that. I wouldn't stay in a place where you're not happy, or not stimulated - and I know you equate the two, to a large degree. I'd advise heading off to Chicago if the opprotunity arises.

I -have- heard though, that Chicagos not great for undergrad. I don't know how true that is, but I thought I'd pass it along. I think the person who said that meant that the city and the university could be kind of harsh, and not extremely welcoming. But I think you could definitley find a place for yourself there if you're committed to doing so - its more that they won't find a place for you, you have to do it on your own, I think. At least thats the impression I got.

good luck, hon - whatever you do, I'm sure it will work out fine.

love you
love, me

well, i wanted to say this when you first picked colleges, but i didn't b/c you had already decided: chicago is the perfect fit for you. you are like the epitome of uchicago. so it was weird that you picked brandeis. and wow, if anything, chicago is gonna be an intellectually stimulating place, and you'll find tons of ppl like you (b/c that's the kind of ppl who go to chicago).

i'm sure ned has already filled you in on this, but go where you'll be the happiest.
