Actually I tend to ignore the time stamp. I know I go long periods of time without posting so if I get two in one day I tend to just think "Yay, I'm actually writing in this thing."
Just don't put yourself too far ahead -- I might miss a post that appears before others I've already read on my friends page.

Well I don't think it matters all that much since I think LiveJournal posts them in the order that they were submitted. For example if someone starts writing at 11:50pm on day 1 and another person starts writing at 00:10am on day 2, but the person writing at 10 past midnight finishes and posts first, their entry will automatically be below the 11:50 previous day entry on anyones' friends page.
What matters to LiveJournal is the order that they were posted on. The time stamp is more for the individual user so that they can have more of a diary/journal feel to it. So I don't think you have anything to worry about.
