Somehow at lunch today, my friend Steve, his fiance' and I got into a discussion about video game systems and the quirks to get them working. Never heard of it for that. Actually, it was the code for Contra to gain 99 lives off the start screen.

I had another technique for getting ol' NES games to work, too. You begin by whispering the names of all the continental states (in alphabetical order) into the cartridge. When that's finished, wash your hands (while recounting the names of the continental states), tiptoe back to the NES' sanctuary (it should be surrounded by offerings of fruit and milk) and place the game (gently) into the NES; however (and this is important), the cartridge should not be inserted fully. Instead, leave a bit of the game hanging outside of the system. Now, press the game down, power on the system, and kick some alien ass. If this does not work for you, then you have somehow angered the gaming gods. In this case, I recommend picking up a new hobby (like curling or tennis).

But yeah, turning the PS1 upside-down worked wonders for me, too.
