"Hey honey, miss me?"

Sam.

This should surprise me more, but it really doesn't. A few tattered pieces of clothing don't make a body. It looked like he was dead, but I know how I would have gotten out of there. Sam probably knows a few of the same tricks.

...Sam knows tricks. That concept is wrong on so many levels.

"I didn't think so. But it was worth a shot, right?"

"You mean like the one you took at me when I was trying to get away from you?"

He started all of this. I was planning on leaving peacefully until he started getting trigger happy. I had no choice but to blow up that elevator. He showed up at my work, just like he's doing now, and considering how he's the enemy, it was a threat to our safety. Just like it's a threat now.

I'm going to have to try again.

Shit.

At least he's a challenge. Two lives down, seven to go.

"Word of advice, sweetheart, direct from me to you. Get tighter security. No one can smuggle a gun in at my work these days, and get past the gaurds without any clearance what so ever.""I'll take ( ... )

"You mean like the one you took at me when I was trying to get away from you?"

Something like that.

"I'll take that into consideration."

"Good."

I didn't look anywhere else but at her, and wondered what the hell she was trying to do with that wig she was wearing. At least she didn't dye her hair like I thought she was going to, she looks better with the hair she has.

I really need to stop thinking about opinions on how she looks, considering the situation.

"Are you going to tell me why you're here?"

I'm here for a lot of things Car, some of them I don't think you're going to go with, and some of it you might really not be happy about.

"If you came to pick up the rings; first drawer on your left, manilla envelope. I won't be needing them anymore."

"I came to talk." Sort of. At least I'm still working a pleasant sort of deal here. "And can I ask what's with the wig? Really not your color."

Then again, I was forced to very briefly go blonde for an assignment, and that was considerably more scary.

"I came to talk."

He's going to be the only one doing the talking, I don't have anything to say to him. As far as I'm concerned, there's nothing to say.

I've always wondered why he never wanted to discuss his time in Europe, but it makes sense now. He ended up with a job in a line of work similiar to mine, and when he found out about me, he followed me to Brazil. He wanted me to think it was a crazy, happy coincidence, but it wasn't. And he knew just how to play it too. He knew before he saw me that he'd have to get me to marry him somewhere down the line, and I didn't mind moving fast because I thought it was different. I assumed that I could trust him, made myself vulnerable...

And ended up barely escaping the desert with my life when he finally decided it was time to make his move.

So really, I could give him 'how could you's and 'why did you do this to me's until someone gets smart about this and comes in to kill him, but Sam's not worth that anymore.

"Company rules."

"I know what that's like." The blonde thing aside, I've looked scarier than she does now. And since I haven't seen her in anything else other than conservative clothes, this is a switch I don't mind, and...

... And there I go again.

"What do you want to talk about?"

I looked around the office finally, and shrugged, leaning back against the wall. "Not a lot, I guess." Come on Howell, get it done. You have your back up in case things go the other way.

Which they probably will.

I looked back to Carly finally, watching her eyes when I talked. "Was any of it for real?"

"Really really boring. I never felt like I was dealing with the real you. Except in Rio. And I never knew what to say to fix it, because I was bullshitting you too to keep up my end of the lie. So it didn't feel right for me to call you on the housewife look when I was playing my own crap role too."

I hate Sam. I believe him, but I hate him for it. This could be so simple, and so fucking easy, if he would just stay out of my way. They thought he was dead. The smart thing to do would have been to stay out of sight for a decent amount of time, and then he could have gone back to whatever his life was like before we met up with each other.

But no, he has to complicate very god damn aspect of this marriage. I don't want to care about him anymore. I think I want to kill him dead. I know that there's nothing I'd like more than to be as violent as possible right now ( ... )

"You obviously weren't listening to our therapist's lecture on communication? Were you?"

I just love how she acts like this is all me. Like she really didn't do anything at all. It's not like she said anything either, but it's still my fault. That's Carly for you.

And I used to really really love that. Now I kind of want to shoot her for it.

"I'm sorry I wasn't interesting enough for you. There were rules, I couldn't break them and blow my cover."

Interesting enough for me? Do you know what could have made it more interesting for me Car? You opening your God damn mouth and actually talking to me on anything that wasn't freakin' painfully boring. Could you have tried that? Talking. Yeah, that actually would have made the complete lack of sex a little easier.

Not by much, believe me, but every little bit helps.

"Are we done?"I smiled a little, and I couldn't help it looking somewhat bitter. "Yeah. Yeah we are." I pulled the remote from my pocket. "In more ways than one." I pushed the first button, and didn't flinch as I heard the ( ... )

"Yeah. Yeah we are. In more ways than one."

"Good becau--" I stopped, hearing what sounded like...no. Sam wouldn't do that. Sam doesn't have balls to do that. I'm his wife, I would know. He set up a loud noise in the air vents or something, but he didn't blow anything up. Sam is too much of a clueless, desert peeing dumbass for that.

Honestly, what kind of idiot uses that for a cover when they're playing fake tourist?

"Looks like you've got things to do, honey."

What was--oh shit.

Shit.

He was serious about that, wasn't he? There goes my denial and the dumbass who peed in the desert ( ... )

"Sam, baby, it's too bad that you're a stupid son of a bitch who's never heard of the 'hands on' approach."

That's for later.

"Because I have."

After I stop my head from spinning over the punch she just threw. Shit, Car, take my head off why don't you?

... It's a good thing I kept that statement to myself.

I went backwards with the kick, hitting the floor, pulling in air all over again and trying to ignore the deja vu that came up. Yeah, I think I'm definitely all set to shoot her after that. Christ.

"Carly! Out! Now!"

She was moving before I could get to her, so I just hit the last button. Might as well get the rest of the damage done, and save face a little.

"This is far from finished, sweetheart."

I managed to get up and go after her, just in time to watch her and her people going out the freakin' window. They're running. She's running. I rolled my eyes and bolted to the window Carly was escaping out of, but I just missed her.

Damn it.If she's going to pull that card, this is definitely not over ( ... )
