On Friday, Sam, Zhubin and I hit the road up to Davis, CA to see legendarily reculusive avant-garde musician/band/entity Jandek play a show. In his 35-year career, he has never played in SoCal and has really only played about 50 shows ever, so we thought we'd make the trek up to experience something fairly unique

Yeah, he's going to be playing one of Sam's Acrobatics Everyday shows. Right now they're just looking for venue (hopefully a performance hall over at IVC or something), and backup musicians (some fun/rad names have been approved by Jandek, so Sam's contacting them). You'll see info when it hits FB/events/mailing list/etc.

I was listening to some voicemails from that dude. Fucking surreal.

Cool Runnings is a movie that has been referenced by my family for over a decade now. There's that scene where they get off the plane, and Doug E. Doug is cold and he puts on everything he owns plus his duffel bag. My parents make that reference whenever we go somewhere cold, because my sister does the same thing.

Four Loko is just a smart value. For $2.50, you get as drunk as four beers, and you don't get sleepy cuz its full of cracked-out energy drink. It tastes gross, but you have a good time when you drink it.

Wow, Sam hooked it up, huh? How easy/difficult was it to ask him to do it.

Looks like one badass time. How much of that beer did you drink by yourself?

Well, there are still some things to do. Basically, he sent a postcard to the Corwood PO Box saying "Hey come play in Irvine" with his phone number. Jandek calls, says he's down to do it. Sam is supposed to recruit the backing band from local musicians, but Jandek needs to sign off on them. The (totally fucking amazing) bassist has signed on/been approved, and the approved (pretty interesting pick) drummer has been approved but hasn't gotten back yet. So...it seemed fairly easy, but with some hurdles. Now he's just trying to find a suitable venue.

I drank 98% of that beer by myself. I gave a sip or two to folks so they could taste it. I did the math and it wound up to be a little under 6 beers. Not TOO crazy. Just looked amazing.
