After about 3 hours chatting with HP technical support, nothing is solved. They tried a lot of stuff, nothing made any difference. My computer still hates Ray Charles CDs. Their last word was that I should (a) install a new DVD drive, just to be sure it's a sortware problem - this after they assured me that the DVD drive couldn't be the problem ( Read more... )

I had that once with a Janis Joplin CD. Every other CD would work fine, but not this one. But then I tried the Janis Joplin CD in other computers, and they also couldn't use it. (Worked fine on CD players though) I dunno, some subset of CDs just don't work with some subset of computer cd drives -- it might be on purpose.

I once lent someone a Moby CD - I guess he tried to rip it and said there seemed to be copy protection on the first (and most popular) song only. He said it came out all distorted and skippy. I was like, Have you heard Moby? :) Colleen
