A day at the California Speedway

When I arrived at the track yesterday, I asked a Suzuki technician if I could flip the shift pattern on the bike I was scheduled to ride to a GP shift pattern (one up, five down). A voice behind me answered my question ( Read more... )

Absolutely. He was nothing less than 100% cool to everyone he talked to the whole day, whether you were talking racing, riding, bikes or just sharing stories.

At one point, he was hopping around the lunch room serving brownies to crew members, journalists, and factory riders with this goofy look on his face. Everyone was just kinda puzzled - I should have had my camera ready...

It's one thing to be good at what you do, but it's another if you don't wear it on your sleeve. I've always believed that those in the spotlight will have a far more fruitful career if they're enjoyable to be around.

I'm actually a little sour at how poorly I rode yesterday. Rusty riding doesn't go well with 160+ hp missiles.

We tried to talk him into riding passenger on Chris Ulrich's GSX=R1000. That got a few laughs out of him :)
