If I Strip for You, Will You Strip for Me?

Mike and I hired a contractor to strip and stain the woodwork in our front room, dining room, and kitchen. This has been a long-term project. We started stripping the paint ourselves a few years ago, but it was a slow and laborious process, particularly since we were doing it with a heat gun and no solvents. Oh. My. God. The previous owners had to be completely bugf--k nuts to smear paint and gunk over that beautiful wood and those beautiful fixtures. Will you have to remove the metal and have it restored or something?

Holy guacamole. That is pretty awesome.

Lovely old woodwork that's been painted over reminds me of those creepy plastic snap-in tile bathrooms. Why not put resources toward restoring what's already there, instead of crap to bury it under?
