Before most of you were born I used to read a series of comics inspired by the Gerry Anderson puppets. Okay, most of you don't remember them either maybe. Supercar, Fireball XL5, Stingray, Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, Joe 90 and UFO were all TV series. Actually I must have grown out of them by the time Joe 90 came along and I kind of grew out of

I remember Stingray. I have astonishing total recall of the lyrics to the soppy closing ballad 'Marina'.
Thunderbirds too. I used to have a crush on Scott Tracey. I guess it's OK to have a crush on a puppet when you're 7.

I remember that there was a closing ballad and that it was about Marina (and the sequence showed her swimming in her long dress, which was perhaps even more awkward for a puppet than a human).

A crush on anything when you're 7 is always okay, and Scott was a cool guy... um... puppet. He had the best Thunderbird anyway. I had models of most of them and spent time making a kind of airport for them made of blocks and meccano and a lot of painted tin cans with Christmas lights inside (looked great in the dark). My TB2 had a motor driven silo thing that opened up when it had to fly out. Not as slick as the TV version but it kept me happy.
