*hugs* I understand the feeling of shock. I'm from north Louisiana and so I have been to Nola a ton over the years, been to Mardi Gras there, took my honeymoon there...my mum's people came there about 5 generations back (Acadian French) and worked their way northward in the state. Such a magic place, our dirty lil jewel... ye gods, this is unbelievable :(
yah the news guy from the weather channel is sarting to bug me because he sounds like he is on a giant backpacking adventure or something, and the anchors in studio chat it up in those jovial tv-people voices. it's not real to them because they have never walked in jackson square or run across beach blvd
Or hung out with friends for hours in various pubs and clubs in the Quarter and 9th ward (I have to stop myself from calling it nightward)or...there's just so much. I remember this one irish pub, don't remember the name, that we always ended up in. Angie lived and ran a bar in 9th but knew the owners of the pub vaguely near the quarter...me and this random almost boheimian group of people would cram in the back and god knows what else. We leave there and go to this one guy's studio and well, that's classified but all of that is gone or is likely gone....I'll miss the pagan shoppe and the artists at the park and all the dirt, grime, energy and beauty...
Scientists and Engineer have been telin gthe city for 20 years to update and improve all of the saftey and equipment and it has gone completly ingnored and they knew this would happen and its not even as bad as was predicted the people to blame are the people who run the city they should be arrested and thrown in jail for jepordize everyones lives and property, not to mention the history
Oh I know. One of those damned ancient pumps went out a few years ago and they said that if even one maybe two more went out that the city would go. That the rest of the pumps wouldn't be able to take the strain... They knew but they had their reasons I'm sure. None make a DAMN now... They say that they'll get the core of engineers out there. They'll get the water out and fix it all but they can't say that...not till the water is gone...they don't really have a fucking clue....I'm sorry. I shouldn't vent at you and I'm not really...*sigh*
Back in 1991 when north louisiana had such terrible rains, monroe flooded because the pumps at the chauvin basin failed. so yah apparently ignoring this stuff til it is too late is a common trait amongst city govt. :(
No joke...And the levees...they mostly keep the water from getting out once it's gotten in...I remember every great once in a while (not that it didn't threaten to more often) all the farm land to the side of the levee and on would get flooded..houses and what not...Such BS.
No problem sweet heart rant as much as you want they have been living on borrowed time and they KNEW it thats what pisses me off they knew sooner or later and yet just let it be. what reason could they possibly have to justify putting thousands off lives in jepordy it was probably money.
No good one. Money that didn't exist in a State/City just fiscally trying to keep it's head above water...I don't know....It's just stupid..inevitable and stupid.
Every state is just keeping there heads above water yet they manage to waste billions. its horribleall the way around but mybe now it will get done so there isnt second time.
