So what's the difference between a bad bruise/injury and a hairline fracture?  Anything I can observe on my own without going in for an x-ray?

if you think that there might be a break at least get it x-rayed. I don't know that you can always tell. In my case it was quite obvious though. good luck

Swelling, inflamation, but really, if you think it might be fractured, you ought to get an xray. You'll feel like a poor dolt if you do and it isn't, but you'll feel like a poorer, permenantly damaged dolt if you don't and it is.

Get into position #4192 and if you hear a bone start to crack...chances are...you have a fraction. Hope everything heals hun. :-)

Bruises hurt a lot, Fractures jurt like a motherfucker.

depending on the place, no, you really can't tell unless you get it x-rayed. They think I probably fractured my finger but there wasn't bloody anything I could do about it so I let it be.....
