I know I said I was going to watch an episode an evening but … I CANNOT AND WILL NOT BE LEFT LIKE THIS! *Stamps foot*  Not when the DVD has a Play All function.  So, onwards to Part 4.  Plot summary from Wiki:

“Thornton gives employment to Higgins after Bessie's death and master and hand get along surprisingly well, despite their differences. They ( Read more... )

Oh Tubbs...did the earth move for you your first time then? My life has never been the same since. It is just wonderful isn't it.

On your next viewing, take note of the music. The way it begins slowly as Margaret swishes through the Mill - and she does swish, just turn the volume up and you'll hear her - and builds and builds until it climaxes as they travel off into their new lives.

North and South will always be my RA yardstick. Guy is hot and sex on legs, but the burning passion of Mr Thornton and lets face it, the look of him sans cravat, in that beautiful linen shirt...well, all I can say is TAKE ME NOW YOU BROODING OVERBEARING SEXY MASTER.

*ahem* forgive me, I got a little carried away.

Now get thee to the book! It beats Tales From The Alhambra hands down.

Just a bit ... I really wanted that post DVD ciggie ;)

And yes, one look at Thornton does make you want to ... er ... marry him right away. ;)

Payday tomorrow. I feel a trip to the book shop coming on ;)

Yes, that is the part I was referring to.

It has been so much fun reading your reactions to the first viewing. *sigh* The "look back at me" is a total heart breaker. I don't know how she could not look back, but then again, this is the same stupid child that said no to that gorgeous man when he declared his love and asked her to marry him.

The train station kiss is of course not accurate, but its such a perfect kiss, it just can't be wrong. THUD

Even though you are no longer a N&S virgin, I'm sure you'll still enjoy multiple viewings. I think about the 10th or 15th viewing I finally started really noticing some of the other characters when JT was on screen. For me, its just so hard to take my eyes off of him other characters are shadows on the peripheral.

Side note: P&P US version; GRRR horrible. I was very displeased! It grades on my nerves to no end. It is so many levels of wrong!

TBF, Margaret's lost her father, mother, best friend in quick succession. And her bother was goodness knows where. Looking back at Thornton is probably low on her list of priorities. She just wants to leave.

The UK ending of P&P is better imo. I've got slight issues with it, Bloke From Spooks was a very good Darcy. Knightly was good, but not Elizabeth Bennet if you see what I mean.

Alison Steadman's Mrs Bennet was inspired though - best I've seen. She managed to show what Mr B would have seen in her back in the day as well as the irritating whatmit she'd become.

And Donald Sutherlands teeth had an acting role all of their own. I think he must have just had them done.

And now you know why so many of us started with, "Oh, I'll just watch the first episode," and end up totally breathless at the end of four hours, 'cos', hey, who could breath during that Kiss?!!! And DDA said they had to re-shoot that scene! You have far more self-control that the majority!

Can't wait to hear what you think of the interview!

I really do love Jane Austen, but I guess I'm an Ugly American after all, because I thought the reinvented P&P ending with Spooksy Matthew McFadyen was very nice. *cringe*

It's probably that I've found, over the years, that so many books I've loved have been changed drastically when committed to film, that instead of being a stickler, I exhaustedly decided to just go with the flow and enjoy it for what it is. If I really object, I just read the book again, LOL. ;)

Am loving your reactions to N&S. It's like watching it again for the first time, for me, too. xoxox

By the way, thanks for those kind words. I think your prayers are working.

That's allowed :)

Glad it appears to be working, I'll keep at it!

Thanks for your episode by episode posting. I'll echo what's been said already...through your postings I felt like I was reliving my "first time." Oh, it's so glorious! You must be the 1% that watched the DVD only 1 episode at a time.

On the US/UK front: I never knew that the US version of P&P was different until it was mentioned here. But that's the US for you...sometimes we think we can do everything bigger and better. I remember that it was rumored that they were going to remake Prime Suspect with Meryl Streep as Jane Tennsion. Now we all know that MS is a very gifted actor BUT!!!! Helen Mirren is Jane Tennsion. Now, what idiot thought that one up?

Thank you. I'll think about the book club shortly.

That would be same idiot that decided to remake Life on Mars ;)
