My niece has a friend that just suffered a brain injury, and I was telling my sister in law how posting updates allowed Julie's friends to stay connected when it was not feasible for them to visit.  Julie has made so much progress, and she works very hard. I wanted to post about an opportunity to help her in a concrete way. The program she attends for her brain injury is having a fundraising walk on March 27th, in Huntington Beach. It is a three mile walkathon, and Julie will be walking the whole thing!

Julie is continuing to work really hard. She does not, however get to spend much time with friends. If you are in or around Newport or Costa Mesa, give her mom a call to arrange a get together. Doing normal stuff like just walking around the mall, or going to a movie is really good for her, and makes her feel good too ( Read more... )

Hi, and Happy Holidays!

It has been a long time between updates for me. Part of the reason for this is that soon I think Julie will be able to write some updates herself, and it feels weird to write about someone else, if they can do that themselves.

I have so much to be thankful for this year. Julie is continuing to improve both physically and memory wise. My kids are both home, and we are all happy and healthy.

Just a quick update.....Julie continues to make progress. This week her day program has 7 participants, so her 6 hour day is stretched to 7 and a quarter hours. She is managing the longer day well, and is not too tired on her days off. She does get a nap halfway through the day which helps her recharge her batteries ( Read more... )

I am sorry for my infrequent posts. Julie is almost finished with her first week in the day program at the St. Jude cognitive recovery center in Brea. I am a bit out of the loop as far as her daily therapies go, as is her family, because she is dropped off, and comes home with a journal she keeps of her daily activities. I got a call from Julie's mom a short time ago, and it is official...she will start the St. Jude brain injury day program on Monday. It is more intense than the therapy she has been having, and she will rpobably be wiped out by the end of each week....but the staff there feels she is ready!
