like taxes and showtunes, affronts to God above

I admire, but can't bring myself emulate, the folks I know who keep up with FOX News or the right-wing blog scene. Yes, it's a failure of will to not listen fully to opposing points of view before deciding whether they're really opposing, and less idealistically, it's a good idea to know what the enemy is thinking -- but I just can't handle it. I ( Read more... )

As a democratic voting Libertarian, I object to your commentary ( ... )

As someone who had to spend three days with Libertarians while they picked their next presidential candidate (a trying event at which, after only three hours, the reporter next to me to leaned over and said, in a tone of great disappointment, "I thought they'd all be polyamorous software developers...") please, please, can YOU explain the Libertarian platform on global warming?

You want me to explain a single platform for a group of people who define themselves with individuality and what amounts to an anti-governmental stance?

I'm sure theres an official party stance, but I can't really speak for the party, nor any other party members. My stance is that its real, it comes from several sources, not all of which are attributable to man.

However, we are the larger portion of it and we need to act to counter our impact. We need to get off the oil drip, lower our emissions and, interestingly enough? Come up with better ways of raising livestock as Livestock accounts for -18 percent- of green house gas emissions.

Or hey, we could all go vegan, and then we wouldn't need to raise livestock! Why do libertarians carry such a giant animus against vegans?

You know, I think a huge tax on edible meat, and a smaller tax on chicken eggs and cow milk used as human food, would go a long way to help with the global warming thing.

I am so with you on dealing with media segments. And I try to avoid socializing with libertarians anymore; since I used to be one, I find myself having to constantly suppress a sort of "you'll grow out of it someday" smugness.

Did you hear where Yodasminion is the new driving force in the California economy? Wedding planners everywhere, rejoice, finally a couple where both parties are an opinion on the flower arrangments. Rejoice or despair, I guess).

How, however, did he come up with holding the danged thing during the Democratic National Convention? Drateth!

It would be stimulating the California economy even more if he'd just give me an excuse to buy those shoes. Ahem. Not fixated over here.

Damn, I was really hoping we could use the wedding as an excuse to lure you out to visit. Can I at least drunk-dial you from the reception?

Unfortunately, I reached my quoted of inconveniently-timed August weddings when I spent way too much money on a plane ticket to watch Ms. Vern Gonzo (she of the silver temples) get hitched. I told them they have to work a BSG reference into the ceremony in my honor...

Definitely the drunk-dialies tho; I'll probably be grouching along amongst angstful Hillary supporters, people who really believe the slogan "Recreate '68!" and at least one angry vegan CNN camerawoman. I know it's historic and all, but why must they hold these damned things during the hotest month of the year?

Also, I will be taking pictures of silly hats.

Ahem, "quota" ("quoted"? I've been working too much lately.)

Why don't comments have a frakkin 'edit' button yet?

By the way, if public transpo decides to hate on you again tomorrow, I should be on the road home most of the day if you want to call again... Sorry I missed last time but I was interviewing a man about a pipeline.

I'm really not a very diligent reader of right-wing stuff, but I will say that the conservative discourse on gay marriage I've seen tends to center on complaining about how totally unfair the left is being. This may be because of their complete inability to field an argument against gay marriage besides "it's icky!", or it may simply be because every single political blog is powered by an immense persecution complex.

Who knew that people still care so much about politics? I'm impressed.

Now I still want to know if Obama's going to pitch in on diaper duty at my house. Seriously.

If he can't, He'll give a great speech about the glory and majesty of motherhood.

As a note, I friended your LJ, so if you like, you can actually -read- mine. It's mostly friend-locked.
