i've read a few people say that DH read like a fanfic.

i even made the comment at how much fic writers had gotten right.

so i meant it as a compliment to the talented fic writers who called things correctly and did a fair go at jkr's style. NOT as a snide criticism of the book.

her writing isn't 'high art'. but i don't think it's ever claimed to be. ( Read more... )

I agree that some of it read like a fanfic, but that's not a stab at Jo at all, it's commending all the hard work and effort fic writers go to to make their stories as book-like as possible

i am still too tender, i think, to read too much criticism of her. i know the book is not perfect, and there are some absolutely valid crits. but i am just still too wibbly to handle it....

fair enough really, I don't think I'd ever truely be able to critise it, not unless i had read it literally a bazillion times

*clings to you*

I'm still torn between writing up my own thoughts of DH and being all 'everyone has said it already, better than I could' about it...

Also my sister is taking the book away so I only have my 6hour speed reading of it, and a bazillion other flist reviews to really build my thoughts.

*sigh*

Really though I'm still a bit of a mess about it.

When my sister leaves today I may finally have the head-space to actually sit down and do it. I must be hormonal though because I cant stop tearing up going over the flist now and seeing all the reactions.

I think as a Fanfic writer I'm delighted that elements of what I imagined have also been imagined by Jo.

i think she's grown. and i love having seen it happen through the books. i don't think that's a weakness in the series at all.

I know that some people think that the ending was too fairytale, but it underlined what she has been saying from the beginning and all the way though the stories, that it is our choices that make us the people we are and not what we are born into. That's one of the most powerful messages out there to give to children (and adults!) and I love how she said it one last time. Technically it didn't need it, but I think it added to the book.

And i agree with what you said about it's a compliment to fanfic writers and not that her writing was fanfic-y!
