Calling all Stashaholics

Hypothetically speaking, if say Lincraft (http://www.lincraft.com.au/) was having a 50% off fabrics sale, and you saw some lovely fabric that might make a nice skirt/jacket/pair of trousers, but you didn’t have a specific project in mindPoll I would buy

10m or the whole bolt, whichever is smaller. My skirts weigh alot.

Would you believe I'm contemplating buying a filing cabinet to put patterns in, so there's more room for fabric on the shelves...

It depends on the width and the potential use 8-> Also if it works for SCA or mundane. SCA I would probably buy 4m, unless it is good white linen cheap in which case I would buy the whole bolt and check that there wasn't another bolt hiding. Also depends on what 50% off works out too. 50% off $100/m is still too much to buy on spec. 8-> If mundane I would come up with a potential use (or 2 or 3 8->) and buy enough to do that.

You are wise in the way of 'not buying too much'.

I'm off to lincraft after work. There's some upholstery fabric I've had my eye on for a while...

Mind you, I'm still not sure I can afford 10m.. but I'll see.

Depends on the fabric, but probably no less than 3.5m - would need at least that for most SCA things and I don't make mundane clothes.
Having said that - I am yet to find nice fabric at lincraft. OK, not quite true - I did see some lovely ebroidered silk, but 50% off $120 p/m still adds up to way too much.

It depends on how many different lengths I would be getting and how much they cost per metre.

I was in Lincraft today and did not buy anything. Lincraft in Ballarat is pretty devoid of exciting fabric when compared to my existing stash plus the experience of stumbling across bargains on a regular basis.

That said, I was tempted by some usefully short, black, fairly plausible looking faux fur. The half price sale might part me from some money yet!

at profit?!?! That's a bit rude. I mean, perhaps a small surcharge to cover transportation, but that's overheads not profit.
