OOC - Feeling the Love

Jan 20, 2006 18:18

I got a surprise email from a lurker. He apparently followed me here from fanfiction and has enjoyed my Mystique RP narratives with her and Toad. I know I amuse the heck out of myself, but it's neat to find out a random stranger finds me funny enough to wade through memes and RP specific prompts for the sake of an occasional laugh. Feedback always ( Read more... )

Fanfic is one person's vision. Or, occasionally, one person's wank. I know I've barely ever had the desire to read it, outside of the one time I dabbled in it over a decade ago. (Then again, getting me to read anything I didn't help make is hard, for I am lame.)

RP is collaborative, and it involves others a hell of a lot more, so they have more invested in it from the start. Makes sense you'd get more attention for RP. :)

I agree on the collaboration and attention.

A lot of the bonus fun of RP is enjoying interactions between characters who would never meet in cannon. I've picked up several new comics because I liked interacting with characters online.

My fic was just the gateway drug, baby. I'm happy to be your RP crack dealer.

It's the good crack. At least with LJ it's not just the first one that's free. ;)

Yep. Raven's a lot of fun, even if she looks down her nose at Theresa.

And occasionally scares Moira halfway to back to death.

Raven looks down her nose at everyone on the side of do-gooders. She's especially disappointed in Teresa because, having been raised by Tom, the girl shoul know better.

Moira's a smart woman. *grins* It's a good thing she's so darn useful. I loved your scenes with Sean and 'Star where Moira was jittery over Raven's casual death threats.

I love your Mystique. I've enjoyed what I've seen in our marvel_mansion game, but also noticed subtle (and not-so-subtle) differences between her as you play her there and as you play her in other games. That can be very hard to do.

Now, see, I was never involved in fanficcing. I've written professionally, but that wasn't what dragged me in here. I've been a tabletop roleplayer for 23 years now, and to me, this is just one of the many different formats available.

Thank you. I'm enjoying a chance to play her closer to cannon over on MM. I think how a character gets played is all contextual. Most of the people she interacts with on my LJ are heroes. Her casual attitude towards non-mutant life would be good for a couple weeks of RP, but then there'd be no plausible reason left for anyone to tolerate her presence. End of RP.

My dad still gets game manuals for his birthday. I don't do much tabletop gaming myself because I hate being the only woman at the table. All the women I know into gaming switched to LARP years ago. I understand the appeal. I find LJ RP a lot like LARP, only without the expensive costumes.

I must say that I love the way you play Raven. I was more into Marvel at first, till about 13, then to Image, the to japanese comics. Mangas are what I read until I started interacting with you and the others. Now I wish to barricade myself in Barnes and noble and read all their TPB's. Though I still collect a hell of alot of manga.

I decided to go with Creed because I knew that pretty much every mutant would have a beef with him. The Raven/Graydon and Tom/Graydon arguments are always some of my favorite moments online. Plus, the actions of you and everyone allowed me to eventually get Creed to a point where he is more focused on, like gav_7 suggested, hating Raven for who she is, rather than what.

Watching how much you and the others knew your characters got me to research every bit of info I could find on Graydon. Even the stuff that contradicts the other stuff!

It's always a pleasure.

RP has also sucked me into comics I'd previously ignored. I'll confess, manga makes me think too much of scary teenage exposure to tentacle porn for me to give it a fair shot. Nevertheless, I enjoy playing with your Greed.

*snicker* Trying to work around the contradictions is half the fun!
