Ooh, this are so *interesting. The flashbacks seemed weird to me from the start - so fuzzy and saturated. And then, too, in the picnic flashback, Sam can't find Amelia and he is *panicked* - wide eyed and frantic. In his 'normal' life, in a public park. Out of character and *very* strange.
Yeah, I wondered about how frantic he was about that. That is a very desperate Sam, and we usually only see that when something has gone very wrong, like, Dean's about to die, wrong. So it's way out of tune with the peacefulness of the surroundings.
There has been at least one reference to previous seasons in every episode so far. I didn't notice it until about ep 4, but that's a lot of callbacks, and they usually don't do this many in an entire season. We've heard John referred to more times in these nine episodes than we did in the last five season put together.
I'm really surprised that nobody is saying anything about Dean's drinking, which, HOLY COW, is different from the last few seasons. Have we even seen him drinking anything but beer? And not too many of those; I'd guess, without checking, he's averaging about ¾ of a beer per episode.
Man, there are SO MANY things about this season that are pinging my UH-OH meter...
But. But... Benny said that he didn't have to deal with the hunger while he was in Purgatory. If that's because he's a vampire, well, okay, but if it's some effect of being in Purgatory that affects everyone? Then Dean should have had the DTs after he came out. And it took him three weeks to get from Maine to Louisiana, so it could have happened at the beginning of that.
And it was Purgatory, after all, where souls are supposed to be purified.
Thank you! I've seen so many people disenchanted with this season because of the lack of anything actually going on in Sam's flashbacks, but then I look at the cage imagery, and the wonky timeline with the dog, and all the flowers we've been seeing around Sam so far, and it just doesn't add up right to me.
I'm really thinking it's some kind of tampering on Naomi's part. Why? I'm not sure, but I agree. Something is off. I don't think he imagined it all, but I think something about his memories was altered, for sure.
Oh man, that neon sign. That's a very good catch that it was used also previously when Sam was stuck in his head. Although then Sam wasn't "someplace better", because, y'know, the wall shattered. But Dean was stuck in his head in 2x21 and ultimately it wasn't a dream world for him either.
Also, is there really just one wine glass in Sam's picnic dream? I mean she did like her alcohol and Sam wasn't spitting in the glass either, so why just one? More clues?
Well, I can't take credit for the season 6 one, but holy crap. I really want to go back through the series and see where else we see that sign.
Yeah, neither of the first two sightings turned out to be good, and I don't think the third one will be, either.
I think there is just one glass in Sam's picnic. And it's empty. Going on what we've seen of Amelia's drinking habits, that's not what I would have expected. Hmmm. Maybe it is a clue...

I love the mystery which is going on and you've picked up some very interesting things which I've missed!
I really want something to come of Sam's memories with Amelia other than the mundane.
