My Paper on Student Atheletes

Im having a hard time coming up with view points on my paper about student atheletes should not be allowed to play sports if their grades suck. If you could give me some reasons why you think they should not be allowed to play, that would be great. This paper is due tomorrow at 12 noon, so please help me..pretty please? lol

playing sports is like .. a priveledge. you should be able to perform well in school to be able to play sports.

How about this - the primary purpose of their being there is to be a student. If they aren't being a good student then that negates the term student athlete. By allowing htem to play with poor grades, their poor performance is reinforced as being "okay" and that their education doesn't mean much.

Perhaps you could also argue that ultimately poor performing student athletes reflect poorly on the school record and the school might gain the reputation of being to relaxed about academics. It might hurt their overall academic reputation.

That's all I can think of. This argument isn't as easy to make as I thought. Good luck writing your paper. : )

i'd mention how essential it is to be a well rounded student, something that all schools premote. you can't put all focus on education, but there should be a balance between school work and extracurricular activities like school sports.
and realistically sports are just that, sports. a hobby for most, not the concrete foundation of which a career can be easily crafted.

if i were you i'd just stress the obvious, school work is more important than sports.

How about the fact that whether they like it or not they serve as role models and if & when they make it big, there will be millions of people watching them in after-game interviews? A dumb athlete will not get sponsorship offers! lol
