Can you buy convenience and reliability with tax money?
I don't envy the job of a Sound Transit board member. They're constantly having to re-justify to voters why they're spending billions in tax dollars with little results (not that this is a problem for the type of father-knows-best social engineer that would make up such a transit board). So the Seattle Sonics are probably leaving town. The team was sold on Monday.
I don't know that I can summarize the city's grief any better than Danny Westneat: "Seattle was mostly quiet this week after we learned our professional basketball teams had been sold out to a bunch of Oklahomans. That's because shrugs don't make any sound."

On the opportunism of elected officials
The city of Seattle was recently the site of a high-profile shooting. Kyle Huff, a partygoer with little criminal record took a couple of his legally purchased firearms and shot six people at an after-rave party. Then he shot himself.
