Last year I really struggled on my new instrument and assumed it was me being bad and disappointing.  I had to learn it on a short deadline, bought a used instrument, and didn't really have time to get it to the shop.  They have to send out woodwinds to be fixed and this can take a week or two, and I didn't have that.

The snowpocalypse was interesting because while we didn't get the volume expected, it was heavy icy snow.  And we still got a lot - enough that I shoveled three times. Snow coming tomorrow afternoon/evening through Friday morning.  Today is going to be in the mid 40s and tomorrow will also be 40.  This means that the six inches or so of snow on the ground is starting to melt.

Last year I was all gung- ho with my work from home job, thinking "wow, in the time I spend messing around on Twitter or Geoguesser or Sim City while I'm waiting for responses and slides and reports and things for work, I can be writing my novel!"

Sometimes I sit up in my office and I hear SLAM SLAM THUMP and I think "oh it's just the pets jumping on things/black walnuts falling/trucks outside" and it is and it's no big deal.  And sometimes I hear "slam slam thump" and it's one of the pets downstairs destroying or getting into something and making a huge mess in the process.  There's no good ( Read more... )
