This last weekend Hannah and I went up to Santa Barbara (thanks to Megan's parents who so generously gave us their condo for the weekend) and had a wonderful time. After 8 months of revisions, some easy, some boring, some downright painful, the second draft of my Nano novel is complete. I managed to add about 5-6 thousand words to the overall length while cutting a few scenes and expanding others ( Read more... )

Three years ago I got a huge break when I started working at Universal Studios, first on Law & Order: Criminal Intent, and then Life. Saw the director's cut of Watchmen finally. Verdict: pretty decent, not near the snoozefest of other ultrafaithful comic book adaptations like Sin City and 300. I think there were moments where they could have been a little riskier with the adaptation in order to convey some of the heavier ideas (like Dr. Manhattan's experience of time all at once ( Read more... )

Other thing worth noting is that my new book that I'm going gaga over is Douglas Coupland's Hey Nostradamus! which moved me more than any book has in a long time. It became very quickly one of my top books of all time and I can't wait to pick it up again. It's an amazing book and I highly recommend it.

Last night Hannah and I went to the New Beverly Cinema for a screening of Close Encounters of the Third Kind. It was the extended edition with the inside of the ship (which sucks) and the print was old and scratchy and in mono, but it still had the magic. That movie is just awesome.
