When the yelling started from down stairs, I curled away from the noise, holding the book like a protective shield in front of my face. The individual words were mercifully indistinct at this distance, but the pitch and timbre clearly communicated the underlying anger of both parents. I checked my mental calendar and sighed. You know, it's odd, it never occurred to me when I wrote this that so many people would view it as nonfiction. Of course, one of my parents did yell a lot, so perhaps I was actually writing what I knew. :)

I didn't get exactly what you were doing at first, but my feeling was as long as the girl was OK, I'd stick with it and read the last couple of paragraphs. If only all kids could have a temporary physical out once in a while like this ...
