In my mind, I picture Jessie and John getting a divorce in pretty short order, which I wouldn't say is much of a happy ending for the kid, although I must admit it's certainly better than being abandoned or time paradoxed out of existence.

Yeah, when I reread this after posting, I sorta wished I had made Stewart's role a little clearer. He's Jessie's boss, and my intent was for her "future" comment to be a bit ambiguous, "Is she talking about work or in a romantic sense?" Were I permitted to edit, I'd probably add a phrase or two there to flesh out that interchange a bit. Yes, John believes she is cheating on him, but even if she isn't, it seems likely that their marriage won't survive much longer.
