Last Chance Idol #1, In The Garden

I didn't want to open the last drawer. Like the ones that had come before, it would contain memories from a happier time, a particleboard fortress reluctantly disgorging items that would have to be examined, remembered, and finally placed into one of two piles, keep or discard. I surveyed the two piles in question, patiently awaiting new ( Read more... )

This is truly fantastic, in every sense of the word! You have such a way with details! Also, I'm super glad you decided to come back and write more. *grins*

Thank you so much! :) Words like that from you mean a lot.

It feels wonderful to be back, hopefully for several entries. I don't know what it is about Gary's contest, but I've created some stuff I'm really proud of here.

Thanks again!

I enjoyed this and The cassette tape trick is one I've done in my teenage years! I've also repaired many with tape that get eaten by my player!!
I also used to have fun as a child on my tape player (in the 1970's) one fun thing was to record messages when the batteries were running down so that when you eventually played them at normal speed with new batteries you got speeded up voices. and another thing was if you plugged your earphones into the mic socket and used them as a mic the recording sounded just like a recorded telephone call!

Thank you! As I said above, the little cassette tape bit really wanted an entry all to itself, and I had to keep convincing it to be nice and share. :) It was definitely fun remembering all those mix tapes I used to make.

Awww. :) I'm glad he decided to stay for Michaela, and I hope he gets out of that relationship soon.

I figure, now that he's made the choice to stay, he'll make the most of the life he has. Well, it's my story, so I can dream, right? :)

Thanks!

Well, he's thought about it and decided he has something to live for. That's a step in the right direction.

Awesome! I like the fact that he chose his daughter over the possibility of an easier life for himself. And I didn't need your tips on fixing cassette tapes, because I used to do that!

Thank you! I decided from the outset that John wouldn't abandon Michaela, but I wanted the temptation to be there, and for it to feel plausible to the reader. So, up until the back wall of the arbor disappeared, I was setting the stage for that one decision. :) Hopefully it wasn't too overdone.

Hahaha, myself, I've never played around with cassette tapes like that. Well, the taking apart, yes, but not so much on the putting back together.

I'm glad this is fiction, because the interactions between John and Jessie have such bite to them, and their future clearly is gone.

The part about the tape cracked me up, too! And I'm glad that, at the end, John chose his daughter over the comfort of his parents and his past.

Whenever I have to write a good visceral fight scene, I always say a word of thanks to my past girlfriends. *grin* I'm kidding, mostly! I'm glad the fight scene was believable though, as I needed to demonstrate to the reader exactly what John "might" be running from.

Thank you, and very glad you enjoyed!
