Dammit, Obama!

Why the hell did you pick Rick Warren to deliver the invocation at your inauguration? Thank you for using your historic ceremony to give legitimacy to someone who supported Proposition 8, despite that lovely little speech you gave on election night where you said we were all one big happy nation.

Yeah, its hypocritical. Hopefully Rick Warren won't be too douchey in his speech and Obama will hopeully contradict anything he says that is douchey and will reiterate his earlier sentiments.

I've elaborated on this in a more recent entry, but the thing I'm really ticked off about is that, despite Obama's grand speeches about an equal America, he and the rest of the Democrats are content to let gay rights sit on the back burner. Between him and the New York state legislature, I am fuming right now.

It's a problem with democracy in general. The average person is bigoted, racist, and homophobic. so if a politician wants to be elected, he/she therefore needs to cater to that bigoted, racist, homophobic majority, which holds back all kinds of progress (if you want progress, you need to rely on the judicial system, which can do the right thing because they're not elected and can actually do what they believe in, not what they think other people want them to believe). If you want things to change, write to your elected officials and encourage others to do the same. If we can convince them that others want them to be more tolerant of gays, perhaps they will be.

And here I thought the job of a leader was to lead. Silly me.
