Back from Cowtown. Was in Calgary on Wed/Thurs/Fri of last week, attending an oil & gas conference. It was...interesting...kind of...
Can't say I'm a big fan of the city (sorry rhiacat). I found it sort of stuff. And dull. Not really what I pictured Calgary to be like ( Read more... )

I am jealous of your trip to Africa. I wanted to put in for a grant to go to Burma on the CIDA's means, but the boss vetoed on the grounds of "not being able to do without me for a week."
Damn my indispensability. And my boss's utter cheapness, since not being able to do without me was partly needing to replace me for a week.

...an advantage of being the boss, I can foist my work onto others... ;)

Congratulations Jake! That's awesome. Make sure you get to Sossusvlei if you can. It's one of the most unreal places in the world--watch the dream sequences in The Cell which were filmed there.

Oh...hi Mike! How are things going? Are you still in Toronto breeding the ultimate biological weapon? I mean...going to school...that's what I supposed to say, right?

I don't like it there either. See posts from July 24-August 15.

I didn't either until last Wednesday...It's a journalism fellowship through CIDA and the CAJ. I'm going over to do stories about diamonds.

So what city are you in now?

you're going to africa? when?

p.s. pick up the lonely planet travel healthy book - it is the best book you can find when travelling in africa. and you can diagnose yourself with all sorts of tropical diseases.

I think I will go in the second & third week of January. It's through the Canadian Association of Journalists/CIDA. I won a fellowship through them, and so am going over to do stories about diamonds.

The healthy book is good? Okay, I'll pick it up. I've got the "Africa on a shoestring" just to get some basic info from.
