You May Now Called Me A Devious Bitch...

From mareen

LJ/Six Apart arse-up due to corporate clean-house for possible stock floatation. Not that anyone ever listens to me but if individuals buy shares in Six Apart on the opening day of trading - small blocks, nothing major. If you can only afford 1, fine. If you can afford 10, 100 or a 1,000 - even better. That would give 'fandom' voting rights ( Read more... )

Well, she had me until I got to the end.

If you are not an American, you may not know that the Confederate flag, used all over the Warriors For Innocence web sites, is the flag of the American Nazi party.

I am an American and while the Confederate flag may be many things, that is not one of them.

I ignore symbolism. I always thought the Confederate flag had been co-opted by anti-government militias as a historical reference to the defiance of Yankee/Washington rule. I figured the American Nazi Party had the old 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' approach and stuck to the good old swastika.

*shrug* I was more interested in the financial angle anyway.

I admit one of the first thoughts that crossed my mind when I saw that theory was "I should set up a stock portfolio."

Tbh, even if it's JUST a theory, finding pet brokers would be a good idea.

I do think if Six Apart are likely to sell on it's going to go the way of YouTube and they'll kiss the first billion dollar cheque that lands on their laps.

After the dot-com collapse in the early 00s, dot-coms've been sensibly and notoriously cautious about stock floatation. Especially when they're dealing in 'intangibles' like social networking. The number of companies that went under who were dealing in tangible product is burned into the minds of trading speculators as much as the company owners.

here via rosewildeirish. If this all really was because of the IPO, then I think fandom needs to do something. I'm doing a little research into online brokerage firms and even if there isn't any kind of organized thing (there should be) I think I'm going to buy me some LJ stock.

What would the best way to bring Fandom as a whole into this? There are more than 32,000 people on Fandom_Counts, but the moderators have it set up as body count, no members have posting access.

Organisation is going to have to be multi-national as there's as many different ways and laws for buying/selling shares as there are countries of the world.

That means a multi-comm approach (one for each country) with a single comm on RSS acting as the co-ordinating comm.

Getting the 32,000 in on it would be simple - fandom bush telegraph. Starting with fandomtossed over on GJ, information should move rapidly through LJ in a couple of days. Though a LOT of the 32,000 are multi-journal holders so say everyone on there has 10 LJ each (a MASSIVE overestimation), that's still 3,200 people worldwide ( ... )

What exactly is a brokerage coalition? I've googled it and I get the idea that it's a group of people buying stock, but beside that I'm not finding much info.

I'm just going to friend your LJ, since I think you just put yourself in charge and follow along.

Basically, that everyone's agreed to pool their shares to form a majority.

Umm, no. I'm not in charge of anything. bookshop is doing very VERY well at metaing her way at the forefront of all this, I'm just ok at seeing incoming doomsday scenarios - you should friend her instead.

Sorry for jumping in here with an entirely different topic - I've just read that many sites at Fortunecity have disappeared, and your Curtis & Keel Page seems to be one of them. Do you intend to move the site somewhere else (what I certainly hope for - I dimly remember your screepcaps), or is it gone for good?
