originally, i thought i'd post alexi murdoch's "all my days" because i wanted to highlight the (i think) overlooked away we go which i adored to the point where i can't understand why some people had such a negative reaction to it. it's like the opposite of where the wild things are to me (and, in a largely irrelevant side note, both were written by dave eggers). in the end, i couldn't do it, though. murdoch is so blatantly a poor man's nick drake.
anyway, since i can't sing-and don't have a musical bone in my body for that matter-i've actually spent a lot of time thinking about whose voice i wish i could have. i considered ben gibbard of death cab for cutie and sam beam of iron & wine and maybe even ray lamontagne or jonsi of sigur ros. some of those artists are coming up later on in the meme and, because i like making rules for myself apparently, i've limited myself to one song per artist.
so i guess the answer to the question depends on my mood. but i think j. tillman might be the most honest one.
