Aldray had blended in rather well - in fact, it would require magic to locate the man. He wasn't disguised, but hidden - hidden in the stone wall behind the platform, thanks to a couple of handy spells. There, he would sit and watch the address - and from there, he could see the people as well. If anyone showed ill will, he would likely be able to spot them.

The cleric had tried for a graceful deflection of Phil's inquiry - stating that he had no intentions of disappointing the king - he just hoped the king would give him time. Asking such a thing took a great deal of courage, and he wanted to have an appropriate ring for the job. Not to mention the timing and place and whatnot; he wanted those to be right as well. The king's expectations did put on some pressure, but so far, he was handling it well enough.

For now, though, making sure Amelia and Philionel stayed safe was the important thing...

Despite the fact she couldn't see him, Amelia trusted Aldray to be close by. He wouldn't let them down, that much she knew, and if anyone were to question how she knew, it would be a matter of simply stating the facts; she knew Aldray, loved him, and with that came an unshakable trust, what more was there to say?

It did ease her mind that the cleric had to be close. Even at that though, the longer she listened to her father speaking, the more something seemed...off. She tried to dismiss it as her imagination, but considering her magical abilities, it was a lot easier for her to pick it out. But where was it?

There was ill will in the crowd, that of several cloaked figures, edging slowly closer to the platform. Very soon, the brief glint of metal would catch the bright sunlight as it was drawn, a number of poison tipped blades about to be magically aimed right at the princess.

That glint of metal is enough to get the attention of Aldray's scrying sensor, and it disperses. Barely a moment after, he steps out of the wall, running for Amelia - hopefully he won't be too late to get her out of the way--!

The sudden rush of footsteps made her head turn sharply, eyes widening as she registerd two things; a sharp object flying towards her, and Aldray, rushing up at break neck speed. Her reaction was instinctive, move towards the cleric as fast as possible. Needless to say, that was hard in her heavy formal down, meaning she pretty much collided with Aldray as she lost her footing, the blade striking, now embedded on the ground, managing to tear off a piece of her skirt.

While that had almost been in slow motion, everything else sped up. The guards were soon running through the crowd to apprehend the would be assassins. However, even that didn't deter them, cloaked figures seizing their chance to rush the platform.

Aldray caught her on collision, and turned with her, putting her behind him in a fluid motion, then turned to face the front again, drawing his sword out in the process. The blade glowed, even in the daylight. He stood between Amelia and the stairway, but kept his eyes open for other threats.

"Foolish assailants! Let me show you the swift and just retribution earned by those who would strike out at an unarmed woman!"

To be fair, Amelia was never armed, more because she didn't need to be. However, that attack had caught her off guard, leaving her a little unsteady and shaky as Aldray held her up. She found herself needing to brace her body against him to regain balance, before realising there were a few assailants moving closer.

Of course, she didn't flee. insteading ripping of part of the dress hem to free herself.. Yes, the clothes she wore were a bit awkward to work with, but she knew what to do. She simply could not leave him to fight alone. It was her they wanted, and the princess refused to allow harm to come to anyone else because of that.

It was probably becoming clearer when one of the hooded men was propelled back by a fireball, before he had the chance to throw anymore blades at them, before preparing another in her hands. "If you villains dare harm anyone here, be warned you will not be spared from the rightful judgement of Justice!"

There's a moment while Aldray's initially shocked by the display of the princess, but knowing Amelia like he does, it's no surprise. It stirs something in him - his fighting spirit was already ignited by the battle, but having Amelia fighting alongside him stoked that spark into a flame, and he charged forward to meet the next hooded fellow, swinging his blade at the attacker.

Amelia was quick to follow, despite the dress and heels, covering in case someone attempted to surprise them from behind. A few more fireballs are cast, driving some of the attackers back, the princess hoping it will give the guards enough time to evacuate the area of civillians.

"Elmekia Lance!" she cried as the bolt of light shot forward, striking one figure in the chest and causing him to collapse. As he fell, he dropped a weapon, the markings showing a royal crest. It seemed Aldray was right in his assumptions about the neighbouring kingdom.

There was no time to dwell on it though, before another man rushed forward, attempting to grab the princess.

Felling that target, Aldray prepped a spell which he would've liked to have had build up longer. His body glowed, and when he turned, he saw the incoming attacker. "Amelia, duck!" Once saying that, and once she ducked, he swung his arm out at the foe. "Nimbus of Light!" A blast of light shot from his hand and at the would-be grabber.

On hearing the yell, Amelia reacted instantly, practically tossing her body to the ground and the spell shot above her head, sending the attacker back into the square. It seemed like the demonstration was causing doubts among the assassins, the remaining ones attempting to flee, only to be stopped by the waitng Seyruun solidiers.

Breathing heavily, Amelia moved to the edge of the stage, listening as the guard called out to her, informing the princess that they had apprehended the assailants.

All except the one that had fell from the platform, who seized the chance to grab Amelia by the ankle, causing the girl to scream as she was pulled down. She continued to call for Aldray, still kicking and struggling, refusing to be restrained even as the man pressed a blade to her throat, ready to pierce her flesh.

Phew. Everything seemed to be in order. The assassins had been caught, and things could go back to normal. Aldray muttered a quiet phrase, sending his armor and holy blade away, returning to his normal vestments.

And then Amelia screamed, putting him in a panic--where'd she go? She was just on the platform a moment ago. Then she yelled his name, and that set his destination. He ran for the edge and leapt off, turning to face Amelia and the assassin. There was a silvery glow to his eyes as he pointed to the hooded individual "Yield, underhanded coward!"

Sadly, this one was more determined that the rest, only gripping the struggling princess tighter. He was confidant nothing could get in the way now, challenging the cleric by pressing the knife in more, causing Amelia to let out a choking noise, a single drop of blood running out of the cut. She needed to cast something, but the pressure on her neck was clouding any coherant thought.

"This is what you get for betraying a promise to our kingdom, princess!" he sneered, angling his arm, ready to slit the girl's throat open in one swift motion.

Aldray growled, hands clenching into fists. He couldn't go forward, that would make the guy do the deed for sure. He couldn't use a projectile spell, as he couldn't risk hurting Amelia...

Though there was one thing he could do.

The cleric straightens up, and when he speaks again, his voice is a bit deeper, and echoes a bit as he uses a command spell. "Drop your weapon!"

Hopefully the assassin is lacking in the will department...

Amelia had stopped moving, not for wishing to obey her captor, but in reaction to the feeling of metal digging into her skin. Everything tensed up, leaving unable to do anything but for the finishing strike.

However, it didn't come. Instead of slicing through her neck, his hand was shaking, apparently having trouble holding the weapon. He looked just as surprised as she was, attempting to force the tip of blade deeper, before he dropped the knife, just as instructed. With him looking at the cleric, clearly confused over what just happened, the princess seized her chance.

"Visfran Rank!" she shouted, magic charging up into her fist before she threw a punch upwards, landing squarly on his jaw, sending his stumbling backwards as in a daze. This gave Amelia the chance to pull herself free from the hold, one hand clutching her neck as it continued to bleed as she rushed towards Aldray, losing balance and crashing into his chest, shaking as she clung onto him.

Thankfully, with his armor gone, Amelia would impact not metal, but chainmail covered by heavy cloth. One arm wrapped around her back to steady the girl, and the other landed on the back of her neck. Energy flowed from his hand as he quietly spoke the commands for a small healing spell.

His arm squeezed her a bit after that, and he dipped his head down. "Are you alright...?"

She winced a little at the touch, but was quick to relax to the gash began to close over due to the spell. Her small hands gripped the front of his clothes, casting a glance back at the now unconscious attacker, before looking up at Aldray.

"I-I'm fine, just a little shaken, that's all." she murmured, knowing she didn't have anything to fear now, but was still a little unsteady, holding onto the cleric tightly.
