I actually heard a guy say that this morning. The T was just pulling out. I didn't really care, but he'd been running for it and was pretty upset, as evidenced by the fact that he yelled "Curse this day!" I think he might've actually shaken his fist at the train, too ( Read more... )

What, "Curse this day!"? It sounds cool, sure, but it's pretty pessimistic, don't you think? I mean, that's just begging for the whole self-fulfilling prophecy thing to bite you in the ass. You're tooling along having a great day, your arm is fine, you catch the T, you get a raise, whatever, and then something horrible happens and you have no choice but to curse the day. And you can't even get mad at fate because it's just giving you what you seem to want and expect.

Using that logic, my motto shall henceforth be, "Winning Lottery Numbers!"
