Dell's supposed to be good with the service. Gateway, on the other hand, is downsizing and closed their store in Redmond, and is making me leery enough about how long they'll be around for me to buy from Dell next time.
I bet you could get by with a 40GB harddrive easy. And if worse comes to worse, that's the easiest thing to fix, either with an external harddrive or even backing stuff up on CD.
And ethernet/network card -- same thing. It gives you a data port to plug into high speed internet with.
