Group Lesson Rates

 Hey there music educators!

I am a violin teacher and have been approached to teach a group violin lesson (2 students). I have never taught a group lesson before that hasn't be affiliated with a school. My question is:

What would you charge for a group (2) lesson? Please take into account the various lengths of a lesson (30 min., 45 min., 60 min.).

I've done this in the past with siblings whose parents already had them involved in lessons but wanted specifically mariachi ensemble work from their group lessons with me.

(If the kids had not been siblings, or if they didn't already have technical instruction with another teacher, I probably wouldn't have agreed to do it. Non-siblings means parents who are likely to have conflicts regarding scheduling and money; and having only one -- shared -- teacher means one kid would have to stand and wait while you gave individual technique time to the other.)

Anyway, I did a full hour with the siblings, at 1.5 times my normal hourly rate. It takes more planning, more energy, and more patience to teach two kiddoes at once, so it's worth the extra money.

Plus, asking for the extra money makes the parents reconsider: Wouldn't it be just as well to have private lessons for each child, maybe 45 minutes each? If the money is similar, then the parents might choose the higher-quality lesson experience.
